In biological systems, signal refers to information that is coherent, timely, and meaningful within a broader pattern. Noise refers to information that is uncoordinated, excessive, contradictory, or poorly timed.
This distinction isn’t philosophical. It’s physiological.
The nervous system is not designed to process everything. It is designed to filter, because filtering is what allows learning, decision-making, and coordinated action to occur.
Without filtering, systems don’t become wiser. They become overwhelmed.
